Veteran Recognition
Offered by the
City of San Clemente
Supported by the
Marine Corps League (MCL) South Coast Detachment 022 (Det022)
San Clemente City Hall Flag Raising & Display to honor recently deceased US military veterans for their service & sacrifice on behalf of the American people and the freedoms we enjoy.
This opportunity is offered in Honor & Recognition of longtime San Clemente resident, George Key, the great, great, grand-son of Francis Scott Key. For many years George voluntarily flew a special ceremonial flag over city hall for a week to honor the passing of any veteran who had been a San Clemente resident. This recognition continues George’s legacy.
Any family member of a US military veteran (honorably discharged) who has been a resident of San Clemente and who has recently passed away can request this special recognition to honor their veteran’s service. This event will include a short ceremony, led by a member of the local Marine Corps League (MCL) South Coast Det 022, and supported by San Clemente City employees (raising flag). The ceremony will take about 30 minutes and include some music, comments by the MCL representative and the flag raising.
If desired, the family is welcome to say a few words during the ceremony concerning their veteran’s service. Also, if the family would like a minister or someone to speak or say a prayer, the family should make arrangements on their own for that support.
